Casebreaker

Somebody set a secret code. Your job is to work it out. Casebreaker is a code-breaking deduction game dressed as a detective's case file. Each case hides a code of colored pegs. Place a guess, close the row, and the file comes back marked: how many pegs are the right color in the right spot, how many are the right color in the wrong one. Read the rows, rule things out, and crack it before you run out of attempts. WORK YOUR WAY UP Every solved case moves you up the ladder. Rookie cases are three pegs from five colors and take a minute. Detective adds a peg and a color. Senior is five pegs from eight, with twelve attempts. Cold Case is where colors can repeat, and every habit you built on the way up has to be checked. HINTS THAT TEACH Cookie Jones, the department's resident detective, keeps an eye on your work. She can rule out a color for you, point at what the rows already prove, reveal a position, or suggest a guess. Best of all, when a guess you're about to submit is already contradicted by a row you've logged, she'll say so, and walk you through exactly which row rules it out and why. Hints are earned by cracking cases at or under par, so a careful player is never short of them. BUILT TO BE PLAYED BY ANYONE Symbols mode replaces the colors with distinct shapes for anyone who can't tell the pegs apart.
