Each beam tilts by weight and distance. Hang two or more ornaments of one color so a beam sits perfectly level and it chimes: the ornaments ring, rise to the ceiling and lift their weight off the beam — which can rebalance the beam above and set off a cascade of chimes up the whole mobile. But careful: push a beam past its limit and it tips, shattering the glass.
